Vehicle Energy Management and Range Testing for Electric Vehicles
Hybrid and electric vehicles have a wide variety of possible configurations, often consisting of 2 or more motors and inverters. These vehicles also have heat, AC, infotainment, steering, and other electrical loads that use energy.
When trying to understand and improve a vehicles total energy usage, it is important to understand when and where the vehicle is using energy so that it can be improved.
The large number of electrical loads and accuracy needed for a trustworthy measurement is not always simple. This session will give a background to vehicle energy management, present testing challenges in the lab, and review testing solutions to understand a vehicles energy flow.
- Discuss force measurement transducers and the bridge-type sensing technology
- Compare 4 and 6 wire circuits
- Compare carrier frequency versus DC bridge excitation
- Discuss optimal DAQ channel setting
- Demonstrate data visualization and evaluation in software
